  • Web Archiving at the KB

Fifteen years ago, the KB – National Library of The Netherlands – saved the first Dutch website in their digital archive. The library celebrated this event with the ‘Web Archiving Week’. Now, the collection consists of more than 21.000 websites, with thematic archives about topics such as The Caribbean Netherlands and the LGBTQ+ community.

    Approach

These days, web archiving is a must to preserve cultural heritage. In this three-part series of explainers, curator Kees Teszelszky talks about the importance, the process, and the challenges of archiving websites. With the power of post-production, Kees’ story comes to life as the scenery changes and websites and icons pop up all around him. To find out more about web archiving and what one of the first social media platforms in the world looked like, check out the series!
